Picking Up, Moving On

Hello and welcome back to my neglected blog! When I created this site, it went through many incarnations and names. I finally settled on Weekend Blog with the intention of posting on light topics and family outings. But it hasn’t felt like the weekend for a while now.

Unless you live in a treehouse, in the middle of an isolated forest, without intranet service, you’ve likely heard the state of things post-election in the US. I won’t get into it again here. I will say, however, that I was a strong supporter of Mrs. Clinton, with real fears regarding a Trump presidency.

After the election, I felt lost in a fog of disbelief and despair. Like many other American parents, I had a hard time breaking the news to my child. Now that the shock of it has abated, I’m still confused, depressed, and disheartened. But I’ve not given up–and I’m proud of that. I’ve continued to work, care for my child, pets, and home, and get out of bed every day–and that counts for something.

Sometimes it’s important to celebrate life’s small victories. Sometimes they’re all we have. So if you too are having a hard time with life right now, remember, even waking up and getting out of bed in the morning is a step in the right direction. Progress is a process rarely measured by leaps and bounds. I hope someday we will look back and be amazed by how far we’ve come, but until then, keep on keeping on. I will too.

Current obsessions include: horror films, shopping for things vintage and handmade, experimenting with essential oils, and slowly restoring our big old house by the beach.
